Key areas identified for collaboration include, application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical diagnosis and hospital implementation tailored for Vietnam, AI-driven education and research, including language learning technologies, infrastructure defect detection using advanced AI methods, Smart city development initiatives, material prediction and innovative carbon-carbon material applications, and Drone technology for rescue operations and agricultural productivity.
A high-level delegation from Vietnam National University, including Dr. Nguyen Thu Huong (Vice Rector), Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc (Dean, Faculty of Civil Engineering), and Dr. Tran Quoc Quan (Lecturer, Faculty of Civil Engineering), visited IIT Kanpur to explore collaborative opportunities.
This visit follows an earlier engagement in June 2025, when Prof. Ashish Garg, Head of the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering at IIT Kanpur, visited VNU—laying the groundwork for the partnership.
Speaking on the collaboration, Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc said, “Our visit to IIT Kanpur has been extremely fruitful. We were impressed by the excellent research facilities and the depth of expertise across critical research areas. We look forward to a strong academic and research partnership between IITK and VNU.”
Emphasising the potential of the collaboration, Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur said, “IIT Kanpur has a strong research focus in areas such as environmental engineering, sustainable energy, smart city development, AI, and drone technology. This MoU with VNU will enhance capacity building and enable joint efforts to address key challenges faced by both India and Vietnam.”
Prof. Bushra Ateeq also shared her enthusiasm, “We are delighted to formalize our partnership with VNU. This collaboration represents a vital step in building a robust bilateral alliance, and in leveraging shared expertise to create transformative opportunities for students and researchers.”
Both institutions recognize their strengths in research and education across science and engineering disciplines and share a mutual interest in academic cooperation. The MoU aims to establish a formal understanding to facilitate collaborative research, academic exchange, and scientific development on a reciprocal basis.
The agreement will benefit researchers, faculty members, and students at both institutions, enhancing knowledge exchange and fostering innovation thus deepening educational ties between India and Vietnam.
